In this episode of North Shore Nine, Neil and Doug break down the Pirates’ 5-3 loss to the Reds in what they jokingly call the “Battle for the Basement.” Bailey Falter struggled right out of the gate with three walks and a home run in the first inning, putting the Pirates in a hole they never climbed out of. Though he settled in a bit, it was another outing that raised serious questions about his spot in the rotation.
The offense didn’t do much to help. Outside of a brief fifth-inning surge that produced all three runs, the bats were silent—again. The guys discuss the Pirates’ inability to generate consistent offense, poor defensive fundamentals, and the lack of accountability across the board. Some bright spots? The bullpen looked sharp, and the vibe among players still seems positive, even if the results don’t show it.
