The Pirates actually won a series, and the NS9 Postgame Show—powered by Primanti Bros.—was ready to celebrate it. Cody and Ryan broke down a rare feel-good 3-1 victory over the Reds, where the starting pitching held up (again), the bullpen was flawless (again), and—believe it or not—the bats actually showed up just enough to win. Andrew Heaney battled through five innings, while Henry Davis had a breakout game with a go-ahead RBI, a walk, and strong defensive play behind the plate. The bullpen (Chase Shugart, Tanner Rainey, Caleb Ferguson, Dennis Santana) locked it down, with Santana continuing to be the most efficient closer in baseball. Even the bottom of the lineup chipped in, led by Adam Frazier, Tommy Pham, and Davis combining for six hits.
There’s still plenty of concern about the offense and lineup construction, but for one afternoon, it was a complete team win.
