The Pirates dropped yet another winnable game, falling 3–2 to the Rangers in yet another episode of Groundhog Day baseball. Mitch Keller once again delivered a solid outing—one unearned run through five and a half innings—but received no support from his offense, continuing a season-long trend. The bats mustered only two runs, both on fielder’s choices, and managed zero extra-base hits for the second straight game. Adam Frazier’s misplay in left field helped open the door for Texas, and despite solid bullpen work from Carmen Mlodzinski and Dennis Santana, the offense just couldn’t get it done. Henry Davis nearly tied it in the ninth, but a warning track out was as close as they got. Andrew McCutchen passed Joe DiMaggio on the all-time hit list—one of the only positives on a lifeless day.
