The Pirates dropped Game 2 of their series against the Giants on Tuesday night, getting rolled 8–1 at PNC Park. Doug and DiNardo took to the postgame show to recap another tough night for a team that looks like it’s running out of steam.

Mike Burrows returned to the mound and worked through the first two innings cleanly before things unraveled. The Giants tagged him for two in the third, one in the fourth, and three more in the fifth before he was lifted. While not everything was hit hard, DiNardo pointed out that even in favorable counts, Burrows wasn’t putting hitters away. He finished allowing six runs on five hits, 3 walks, and 3 home runs.

The defense didn’t help. Tommy Pham had a tough night in the field, as did Spencer Horwitz a few times. Doug noted how these lapses continue to stack up in games that quickly slip away.

Offensively, the Pirates were flat. Henry Davis struck out twice and has just 1 hit since July 8th, the bottom of the order gave them nothing, and outside of an early RBI single from Bryan Reynolds, the team never really threatened.

With the series now tied at one apiece, the Pirates will try to salvage some momentum tomorrow — but as Doug said, “this one was pretty lifeless.”
