The Pirates dropped the second game of this series to the Toronto Blue Jays, falling 7-3 at PNC Park in a game where Mitch Keller’s second-half woes were once again on full display. Keller was tagged for five runs, continuing a troubling stretch that has seen his ERA balloon since the All-Star break. Doug and DiNardo broke it all down on the NS9 Postgame Show Powered by Primanti Bros.
Offensively, Pittsburgh had its chances but couldn’t capitalize. Bryan Reynolds and Nick Gonzales notched a pair of hits while Ronny Simon, Jack Suwinski, and Isiah Kiner-Falefa each drove in a run, but the middle of the order failed to come through with runners on base.
On the mound, Keller simply didn’t have the command to keep Toronto’s bats quiet. George Springer and Alejandro Kirk took advantage, each contributing key hits that broke the game open. By the time the bullpen entered, the damage was already done, with Yohan Ramirez left to mop things up in the later innings.
