The North Shore Nine Postgame Show broke down a 4-2 Pirates win over the Cincinnati Reds and it was a fun one to talk about. Tyler and Doug kicked things off with Johan Oviedo’s night on the mound. He struck out seven over four and two thirds and showed the swing and miss stuff that has been coming back since his IL stint. Oviedo only allowed two runs on a homer to Elly De La Cruz and continues to make his case for a rotation spot next season.
Hunter Barco made his MLB debut and grabbed the win with a clean inning. The lefty flashed a lively fastball and a legit changeup that already looks big league ready. The bullpen was solid again with Lawrence and Isaac Mattson shutting things down and Dennis Santana doing Dennis Santana things.
The offense was powered by Oneil Cruz finally reaching the 20 home run mark. It felt like we had been waiting months for it and it ended up being the difference in the game. Nick Yorke chipped in a two hit night and Alexander Canario drove in a run as well.
There was some controversy when Jack Suwinski’s diving catch was overturned on replay even though there was no clear angle showing the ball hitting the ground. Tyler and Doug were not impressed with the call and it sparked a bigger chat about the upcoming ABS system.
It was a night of strong pitching and timely hitting. Catch the full postgame show powered by Primanti Brothers on YouTube or wherever you get your podcasts and Raise It with us.
