And on the 7th day, the bullpen rested. Here’s your NS9 Bullpen Breakdown for Thursday after the six-game roadtrip to start the season. The Pirates are off today and then will have their home opener tomorrow against the Orioles.

Don Kelly was able to get Dennis Santana a day off yesterday in the Pirates 8-3 win over the Reds so after pitching 3/4 days, Santana will get two days off and be ready to go for this upcoming homestand. Yesterday in the win, we saw Gregory Soto pitched back-to-back days, Justin Lawrence worked an efficient scoreless frame, Mason Montgomery made an appearance allowing a home run and Isaac Mattson got work in with 22 pitches. Overall the bullpen was really efficient. That makes 3/4 days for Mattson as well, but with the off day today he should be available Friday as well. Hunter Barco threw the most pitches out of anyone in the pen this week with 71 in the last five days so the off day (and not pitching yesterday) will help him as well.
We’ll be back tomorrow with an updated Bullpen Breakdown coming out of the off day and some notes on Mitch Keller who is scheduled to start the home opener.
