The Pirates fell to the Tigers 5-3 today, dropping to 9-3 on the season. Martin Perez and Edward Olivares starred today, but their performances were washed away by a blown save in the 9th inning.
Martin Perez shut down the Tigers, providing eight innings of one-run ball. He struck out seven batters without allowing a walk. However, David Bednar allowed four runs in the 9th inning, blowing a two-run lead.
Offensively, Olivares stole the show for the Pirates. He mashed two home runs, coming in the 2nd and 6th innings. Ke’Bryan Hayes also tallied two singles and an RBI. Bryan Reynolds doubled, later scoring on one of Hayes’ singles.
The Pirates are off tomorrow before playing in Philadelphia on Thursday. Jared Jones will take the mound, facing off against Ranger Suarez.
