It wasn’t a pretty win, but it was a whole lot prettier than the Phillies’ uniforms.

The Pirates became the third team in Major League Baseball to reach 10 wins on the season, defeating the Philadelphia Phillies 5-2 on Friday night in Citizens Bank Park.

Bailey Falter turned in a strong start, surrendering only one run off a fluke-y infield single to Bryson Scott. Falter threw 71 pitches and gave up four hits and a walk, with three strikeouts. The bullpen created some trouble in the eighth inning but escaped without severe damage, as Josh Fleming gave up an earned run and Aroldis Chapman walked two.

The Pirates opened the scoring in the second inning. Two walks and a fielding error loaded the bases for Henry Davis, who walked in a run on a slider at his shoelaces. In the fourth inning, Connor Joe knocked an RBI single to left field that evaded Phillies outfielder Whit Merrifield by inches.

The Pirates’ third run came in the seventh inning on a called strike three– Phillies catcher J.T. Realmuto misjudged the pitch and it deflected off of his forearm, allowing Henry Davis to score from third base. In the next inning, Davis drove in his second run of the game on a double to left field. Davis finished the night with two hits, two RBIs, a walk, and one strikeout–his best performance of the young season.

After two consecutive blown saves, David Bednar returned to form with a scoreless inning in the ninth. The Pirates closer struck out one and induced two flyouts on 16 pitches.

The Pirates and Phillies return to action on Saturday with a 4:05 start. With any luck, the Phillies will return to a major league uniform at the same time.
