The Pirates defeated the Phillies 9-2 this afternoon. Jack Suwinski shined, hitting a grand slam. In the 9th inning, Andrew McCutchen crushed his milestone 300th home run.
Mitch Keller pitched well today, pitching seven innings and allowing two runs. Josh Fleming and Ryder Ryan pitched the final two innings, providing two shutout frames.
The Pirates took the lead in the 6th inning on a grand slam by Jack Suwinski. With no outs in the inning, Suwinski lined a Zack Wheeler curveball out to right-center field. Three batters later, Joey Bart pulled a home run down the left-field line, extending the lead to four. The Pirates would add another run in the 8th, as Jared Triolo scored on a passed ball by J.T. Realmuto. Then, in the top of the 9th inning, Andrew McCutchen hit his 300th home run. It was 378-foot bomb to left field, coming off a hanging slider by Ricardo Pinto.
The Pirates are back in action tomorrow, heading to Queens to face the New York Mets at 7:10 P.M. Martin Perez will take the mound for the Bucs, while former Brewers’ starter Adrian Houser pitches for the Mets.
