The New York Mets completed a sweep of the Pittsburgh Pirates today by the score of 9-1. Bailey Falter pitched well over five innings, but the bullpen once again imploded for the loss.
The Pittsburgh Pirates worked to get their bats off their shoulders to start the game. Each of the first three innings they were able to put men on base with singles. However, they were not able to capitalize on those until the 3rd inning. With two outs in the third Bryan Reynolds was able to single home Henry Davis to give the Pirates the 1-0 lead. As with all leads in this series it was quickly erased in the next half inning. There was a Marte “Party” in New York, Starling Marte hit a two run homerun to give the Mets the lead off of Bailey Falter. It would only be a homerun in 4 other MLB park. All-in-all Falter again pitched very well striking out four and walking one. Enter Hunter Stratton.
Stratton came on to relieve Falter in the bottom of the 6th and the wheel fell off. A two-run single and a two-run home run pushed the score to 6-1 before he was able to get a strike out to end the frame. The Pirates were unable to do anything offensively in the seventh or eighth. In the bottom of the eight David Bednar came in to get some work, and the axel dislodged from the car. A walk, a double, a no out fielder’s choice and a single scored one run and loaded the bases with no outs. Bednar was able to bare down and get back-to-back strike outs of Harrison Bader and Zack Short, before getting pulled for Josh Fleming. Fleming failed to put away Brandon Nimmo on a 0-2 count giving up a 2 RBI single. Flemming managed to end the suffering there. The offensive then went 1-2-3 in the top of the ninth to finish the game.

The Pirates return to action Friday against the Red Sox. The game will be at 6:40 PM at PNC Park in Pittsburgh, PA. Mitch Keller should pitch for the Pirates with Brayan Bello going for the Red Sox.
