The Pirates defeated the Giants 4-3 tonight, getting back to .500 on the season. Bryan Reynolds and Ke’Bryan Hayes propelled the Pirate to the win, each blasting a home run in the 10th inning.

Martin Perez went six innings with one earned run. Pirates starting pitchers have pitched 12 innings so far this series, allowing just that one run. Colin Holderman, Josh Fleming, and Hunter Stratton all posted scoreless relief outings. Then, David Bednar closed out the win in the 10th inning, despite allowing a two-run home run to Jorge Soler. Bednar has allowed five of the six Giants’ runs in the first two games of this series.

Offensively, the Pirates struggled for most of the game. Giants starter Jordan Hicks went six innings, allowing one run and generating nine strikeouts. Rowdy Tellez went on to tie the game with a sacrifice fly in the 7th inning. Then, in the 10th inning, Reynolds and Hayes each lined home runs to left field. Reynolds’ two-run shot gave the Pirates the lead, while Hayes’ solo shot provide some eventually necessary insurance.

The Pirates will look to win this series tomorrow at 4:05. Jared Jones will take the mound for the Bucs, facing off against Keaton Winn.
