Pirates left-hander Dominic Perachi joined North Shore Nine to talk about his unique journey from Division III Salve Regina University to becoming one of the most intriguing arms in the Pittsburgh system. Drafted in the 11th round of the 2022 MLB Draft, Perachi’s story is one of perseverance, development, and proving that small-school pitchers can thrive in pro ball.
After an injury setback early in 2025, Perachi returned to Altoona in August and finished strong, posting a 2.84 ERA and 1.14 WHIP over his final five games. He discussed how he regained confidence after a slow start, the adjustments he made to his delivery, and how he leans on his deceptive delivery and sharp slider to keep hitters off balance.
Now healthy and heading to the Arizona Fall League, Perachi talked about what he hopes to gain from facing elite competition and how the experience could set the tone for 2026. He also shared insight into what it’s like being a Division III product in a pro clubhouse—and how that chip on his shoulder continues to drive him.
