The Pirates dropped another game at home to the St. Louis Cardinals losing 5-4 for their fourth straight loss, their season high for a losing streak. Tyler and Doug recapped this winnable game that slipped away once again on the NS9 Postgame Show…

Here’s my three takeaways from a series I can’t wait to end…

I hate the Cardinals

Here’s a quick list of things that I would rather watch 100 times before watching another Pirates/Cardinals game:

  • Penguins/Devils October regular season game with the Devils playing the horrendous trap
  • My daughters favorite movie K-Pop Demon Hunters or Frozen or some kids playing some stupid game on YouTube
  • My dog taking a dump in the back yard
  • Game 7 of the 1992 NLCS
  • Paint drying
  • Corn growing

Get the gist? I HATE THE CARDINALS. I’m completely tired of seeing them come up with all the hits and all the breaks and then their 5+ ERA pitchers come in and throw gems. If the Cardinals find a way to get a win against Paul Skenes on Thursday, the vibes this team had will be all gone.

That was a Nice Start in April….aaaaaaaaaaaaand it’s GONE

The Pirates started the season 9-5 and then 16-11. That 16-11 start was just four days ago when they took their second game against the Brewers in 10 innings. Since then, four straight losses, three of them at home to a team that was predicted and projected for dead last in the division. It’s sickening.

Sure, it’s still April. There’s plenty of baseball left to be played, but I honestly don’t know what to think of this team right now. Is this just a bad stretch of games or just the Cardinals waving their jedi hand across the Pirates faces “you will lose this game”? Or is this a sign of things to come and a gut check back to reality for a team that’s maybe not as good as we all thought? Maybe they are a team that’s going to just hover around .500 all season and drive all of us increasingly mad. Time will tell, but I know one thing…I can’t wait for the Cardinals to leave Pittsburgh Thursday.

Mixed Results from Bubba Chandler

Bubba Chandler didn’t even have a bad start in this game against the Cards. He went 5.0 innings with three runs allowed on three hits, six strikeouts and four walks. Obviously the walk problem is still there and only one of his walks led to a run being scored, but even without the walks he’s not very efficient. He threw 85 pitches in those five innings and just needs to go longer in games and not try to strike everyone out.

Chandler’s ERA sits at an ugly 4.97 through six starts and he now has 20 walks in 29.0 innings which isn’t going to get it done. With that many walks, if he wasn’t uber talented, his ERA would be 6+. It’s still early and he’s learning, but it does make me wonder how much of a lease he’ll have in this rotation if he continues to struggle with his control. Jared Jones made his first rehab start Wednesday night in Bradenton and he looked electric. If all goes well, Jones will be back at the end of May/early June and this team will have a decision to make in this rotation.
