On the latest episode of North Shore Nine, Tyler and DiNardo took to Spaces for another wide-ranging, interactive conversation with Pirates fans, covering everything from arbitration trends to roster construction and letting the community drive much of the discussion.

The show opened with a breakdown of Tarik Skubal’s recent arbitration deal and what it says about how quickly elite young pitchers are getting paid. That led directly into a deeper conversation about Paul Skenes and just how much money he could make in the coming years if he continues on his current path. With arbitration numbers rising and top arms being rewarded earlier than ever, Tyler and DiNardo walked through the possibility of Skenes earning historic figures before he even reaches free agency.

One of the biggest strengths of the episode was the constant listener involvement. Several callers jumped in throughout the night, sharing opinions on payroll strategy, player development, and where the organization is headed. Jake Mangum also came up in the discussion, sparking debate about roster depth and how role players can impact a competitive window.

The hosts also touched on the potential for another lockout and how future labor negotiations could reshape the financial structure of arbitration and service time. Any major changes could have lasting effects on teams like Pittsburgh.

The episode wrapped with a focused look at third base, one of the Pirates’ biggest remaining question marks. With no clear long-term answer, it remains a position that could define the roster moving forward.

Another night of honest conversation, fan voices, and real Pirates talk, exactly what North Shore Nine is built on.

Smaller market teams need to take some initiative. The Cardinals? I have never liked them. I am a 60+ year Dodger fan from Illinois. But they are the example. Until the last couple years that is. They built a nice stadium. They have a nice area (including the Arch) surrounding the stadium. 2.2 million in the metro area?? And MAYBE another million in a 100-mile radius? And yet they (until the last couple years when they stopped spending or making intelligent trades) fill the stadium. And the area around the stadium is filled with people before and after the games. HMMM. Those businesses do OK when there isn’t a game, too. Pittsburgh used to be a powerhouse. Detroit has taken initiative with Skubal. Pittsburgh should do the same with Skenes. Smaller market teams NEED to promote and build their team. An MLB team is a serious money generator. C’mon Pittsburgh! Willie Stargell. Roberto Clemente. Dave Parker. Honus Wagner? This last World Series had one of the highest viewership’s in the last thirty years. Jump on the band wagon!! Take the Pirates back to the glory days!
