The Pittsburgh Pirates pulled off a thrilling 3-2 comeback victory over the Cincinnati Reds on Friday night, with Bryan Reynolds once again delivering in the clutch. Trailing 2-1 in the eighth inning, Reynolds stepped to the plate with runners on first and third and two outs. The veteran outfielder ripped a double into the right-field corner, driving in both runs and giving the Pirates a lead they would not relinquish.
Reynolds, who has been red-hot since the series in San Francisco, finished the night 2-for-4 with two RBIs. His recent surge has Pirates fans talking about “August Reynolds” as he looks to close the season strong and push his numbers back toward his usual standard.
Oneil Cruz also played a key role offensively, lacing an RBI single to left in the early innings that brought Reynolds home for the Pirates’ first run. Still, Cincinnati starter Chase Burns was dominant for much of the game, striking out 10 batters over six innings and keeping Pittsburgh’s lineup in check until late.
On the mound, Mitch Keller battled through some early trouble. After a scoreless first inning, the Reds grabbed a run in the second, but Keller limited the damage by inducing a double-play ball. He kept the Pirates within striking distance before the bullpen closed the door in the late innings.
The win not only gave Pirates fans a reason to “Raise It” on a Friday night, but it also dealt a blow to the Reds’ fading playoff hopes — with Reynolds right in the middle of it all.
