The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Colorado Rockies today 5-3, wining their first series since the one against the Orioles.
The Pirates went down early, with Bailey Falter giving up a double then back to back homeruns in the top of the 2nd. He was able to calm down after that going 5.1 innings with just the three runs allowed. Pirates got one back in the 4th, a Ke’Bryan Hayes single, a Oneil Cruz double and a Rowdy Tellez groundout scored one. The bats then went quiet until the bottom of the 6th. A single by Connor Joe, a double by Bryan Reynolds followed by a RBI groundout by Hayes cut the lead to one. Cruz followed with a massive no doubt two run home run to take the Pirate lead. A Tellez double and an eventual Jack Suwinski single gave the Pirates a two run cushion.
Luis Ortiz pitched 1.1 innings following Falter, then Chapman pitched the eight inning. A single to start the inning was erased on a great pick off throw, including a Tellez rundown of the runner. Chapman then struck out the next two he faced to end the inning. David Bednar came on in the 9th to attempt to close it out for the Pirates. He got a quick two outs before giving up double. However, he was able to close out the game with a strikeout giving the Pirates the much needed win.

The Pirates return to action tomorrow against the Los Angeles Angles. The game will be at 6:40 PM at PNC Park in Pittsburgh, PA. Mitch Keller will pitch for the Pirates with Tyler Anderson going for the Angles.
